Was für eine Premiere … im September 2025 fand die erste Straßenbahn-Weltmeisterschaft in Wien statt. Vor über 50.000 Fans und rund 130.000 Zuschauern im Livestream wetteifern 25 Teams aus 25 Ländern und von sechs Kontinenten um den beliebten Titel „Beste Straßenbahnfahrer der Welt“. Gefordert waren Präzision, Feingefühl und Teamgeist. Die Disziplinen reichten von "Stop & Go" (sanftes Anfahren und Bremsen) über Zielbremsen, Seitlichen Abstand halten bis hin zu spektakulären Aufgaben wie Tram-Bowling und erstmals Tram-Curling. Auch das Rangieren nach Pfeifsignalen, das Halten einer konstanten Geschwindigkeit, das Einschätzen der Fahrzeuglänge beim „Perfect Stop“ sowie die Gesamtzeit des Laufs flossen in die Bewertung ein. Die Ergebnisse beider Fahrer*innen wurden zu einem Teamergebnis zusammengezählt.

Nach dem ersten Lauf führte das polnische Team, vor Norwegen und Österreich. Am Ende siegen aber die Gastgeber aus Wien – mit einer herausragenden Gesamtpunktzahl von 5599 Punkten. Elisabeth Urbanitsch und Florijan Isaku zeigten zwei exzellente Fahrten und setzten sich gegen die Konkurrenz durch. Wien ist damit die einzige Stadt weltweit, die sowohl Straßenbahn-Europa- als auch Weltmeister ist und sie ist die erste Stadt, die beide Meisterschaften veranstaltet hat. Mehr Öffi-Liebe geht kaum.

What a premiere! In September 2025, the first World Tramdriver Championship took place in Vienna. In front of over 50,000 fans and around 130,000 livestream viewers, 25 teams from 25 countries and six continents competed for the title of "World's Best Tram Driver." Precision, finesse, and team spirit were essential. The disciplines ranged from "Stop & Go" (smooth acceleration and braking) and target braking to maintaining lateral distance and spectacular challenges like tram bowling and, for the first time, tram curling. Maneuvering according to whistle signals, maintaining a constant speed, judging the vehicle length during a "Perfect Stop," and the overall run time were also factored into the scoring. The results of both drivers were combined to determine the team score.

After the first run, the Polish team was in the lead, followed by Norway and Austria. In the end, however, the host Vienna emerged victorious – with an outstanding total score of 5599 points. Elisabeth Urbanitsch and Florijan Isaku delivered two excellent performances and prevailed against the competition. Vienna is thus the only city in the world to hold both, the European and World Tramdriver Championships, and it is the first city to have hosted both championships. It doesn't get more public transport-love than that.

Quelle première ! En septembre 2025, Vienne a accueilli le premier Championnat du monde de tramway. Devant plus de 50 000 spectateurs et environ 130 000 personnes suivant le streaming en direct, 25 équipes venues de 25 pays et six continents se sont affrontées pour remporter le titre prestigieux de « Meilleur conducteur de tramway au monde ». Précision, finesse et esprit d'équipe étaient essentiels. Les épreuves allaient du « Stop & Go » (accélération et freinage en douceur) au freinage ciblé, en passant par le maintien des distances latérales et des défis spectaculaires comme le bowling en tramway et, pour la première fois, le curling en tramway. La maîtrise des manœuvres au signal sonore, le maintien d'une vitesse constante, l'estimation de la longueur du véhicule lors d'un « arrêt parfait » et le temps de parcours total ont également été pris en compte dans le calcul du score. Les résultats des deux conducteurs ont été combinés pour déterminer le score de l'équipe.

Après la première manche, l'équipe polonaise était en tête, suivie de la Norvège et de l'Autriche. Finalement, ce sont les Viennois qui ont remporté la victoire, avec un score exceptionnel de 5 599 points. Elisabeth Urbanitsch et Florijan Isaku ont réalisé deux performances remarquables et se sont imposés face à la concurrence. Vienne est ainsi la seule ville au monde à accueillir à la fois les championnats d'Europe et du monde de tramway, et la première à avoir organisé les deux compétitions. Difficile de faire plus favorable aux transports en commun !
